Cardinals prevail over PUC Pioneers

Thursday night, January 2nd, the Cardinals took on the Pacific Union College Pioneers in Angwin, CA, in the Cardinals first game of 2014. Having traveled from Michigan to California, and not wanting to go home empty-handed, the Cardinals brought a lot of energy which propelled them to a 63-49 win over the Pioneers.

The first half had a slow start with the score reading only 12-6 with 10:00remaining on the clock. Great defense by the Cardinals held the Pioneers to 17 points shooting only 6 out of 27 (22%). The half would end with the Cardinals in the lead, 26-17.

The Cardinals continued their great defensive efforts in the second half which would give them 14 steals for the game. Both teams were equally matched in size, but the Cardinals were able to out-rebound the Pioneers 42-36. The Cardinals shot 46% from the field while holding the Pioneers to only 33%. Tyler Wooldridge would help his team to create separation by contributing 16 points in the second half. The Cardinals led by as much as 19 points which would prove to be too large a lead for the Pioneers to come back from. The game would finish with the Cardinals winning, 63-49.

Tyler Wooldridge led all scorers with 25 points. Matthew Little chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Kenny Dupont was the high rebounder with 10.

The Cardinals will travel back to Michigan and take on the Comets of Olivet College on Thursday, January 9th, in Berrien Springs, MI at 7pm EST.
