Lady Cardinals Reach .500
It was an exciting weekend for Lady Cardinal Basketball!
While away, the girls' managed to bring home 2 wins from Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Saturday night game was against Crossroads College, a small college located in Rochester, Minnesota. Our girls came out with a heavy press, forcing turnovers from the other team. However, their offense began to become a bit careless. Nonetheless, our girls found the perfect tempo and held Crossroads at 28 points, ending the game at 64-28. Early Sunday morning the Cardinals traveled to Milwaukee, WI for another game against Mount Mary University. According to scouting reports, this team performed pretty well from the 3-point line. Our girls knew this game was going to tougher on them mentally and physically. Late nights and early mornings make everything more difficult! The Mount Mary Blue Angels played a defense that was unlike most. It was a mixture between zone and man, which added strain to our girls. However, the Cardinals adapted extremely well to the adversity that came their way when 3 players fouled out– Kia Williams (FR/Hinsdale, IL), Gati Wankyo (SR/Clinton, MA), and Brianna Kittleson (FR/Silver Spring, MD). The game was tight throughout the whole game, leaving everyone on their toes. Shawntell Rachel (SR/Ceres, CA) had an outstanding game with 23 rebounds, of which 11 were offensive rebounds. This game was excellent proof of why basketball is a team sport. Our girls came out on top 52-46 because each player knew the part they played was vital, creating a perfect rhythm. Now, the Lady Cardinal Basketball team is 7-7, or .500. It's going to be a fun rest of the season!
